With everything in our lives becoming digital, the thieves of the digital world are doing the best they can to “get into your house” – if you know what I mean. Which is why you have to do everything you can to ensure security.
Security has been the talk of the town nowadays, especially after the advancement of hackers and their ways of taking important information. However, there are two different kinds that confuse people –cyber and data.
Let’s start by pinpointing an important point – cyber and data security are used interchangeably, yet they are different from each other.
Another point we want to clarify is the close alignment of information security with data security.

Data security is very simple. Just as the name entails, it focuses on securing the information present.
However, the latter focuses on digital security as a whole.

It’s main purpose is to protect the information from involuntarily modifications, deletions, or management. Many companies store incredibly sensitive data, and they can’t risk losing that information in any way. Fortunately, there are many different ways they can secure their data:

- Data Backup. Backing up data can save many from unwanted headaches such as accidental deletion. With data backup, you’ll have copies of your files and folders stored in places other than your primary location.
Therefore, as we can see, data security focuses on the data/information itself.
Cyber Security
Data and cyber security are sometimes seen as synonyms of each other. As we mentioned above, the latter mainly focuses on protecting the device itself. The cyber-attacks can come from both, inside and outside the organization. By device we mean:
- Computers
- Laptops
- Cellphones
- Servers and networks
When talking about cyber security, it is important to talk about what we are trying to protect the devices against – Cyber-attacks. To sum up, cyber-attacks are the attempts of hackers trying to destroy your device with the information available inside.
